MIAMI HOTEL
Miami, FL
The Miami-Dade Courthouse, constructed in 1928, was Miami’s first skyscraper, standing at 335 feet. The building’s first three exterior walls are made of Stone Mountain granite, and the façade above is made of terracotta. Due to the deterioration of the building’s structural system, many safety concerns arose, leading to its closure. A project has been proposed to transform the courthouse into a hotel. The planned hotel would be 27 stories tall, with 150 hotel rooms and 18 apartment units, encompassing a total of 250,000 square feet. The Courthouse has been designated a Nationally Registered Historic Landmark. While a new courthouse is being built nearby, the preservation of the original building will help maintain its memory and historical significance.
Original concept by Steven W. Miller and Richard Heisen Bottle, FAIA.
